WAVERLEY NEWS.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johnston, who have been spending some months sightseeing in Britain and South Africa, have returned to Waverley. Mrs. Wallace and Mrs. G. H. Graham are Waverley visitors to Wellington. The Christmas, fair arranged ’by members of St. Francis Church was held during the week, and from early morning the helpers were busy and very good business was done. By four o’clock the stalls were' cleared. The stall-holders were: Produce, Mrs. O’Leary and Miss O’Riley; fancy, Mrs. Jim Burke; and Miss Kennedy, cake, Mesdames Blackeston, Mulholland and Mia* Cleary; sweets, Mesdames Bates, Gray and. Fitzgibbons. A number of ,competitions were conducted, the winners being: Christmas cake donated by Miss O’ Riley (counters 250), three tied and the cake was divided between Mrs. Bason, O’Leary and A. Warner; three saucepans donated by Miss Kennedy (counters 131), A., Kennedy; a hand-pointed cushion donated by a • well-wisher (buttons 123), Mrs. ’Mills; triplex cushion donated (counters) 131), Mrs. W. P. Wallace; supper cloth (counters 213), E. Graves; child’s wheelbarrow donated by Mr. Cunningham (counters 189), R. M. Conner; box of tea donated by Mrs. Jefferies, Mrs. Bates; rocking horse donated by Mr. Edwards, Mr. MeRen olds; baby’s set, Mrs. Moore; work basket, Mrs. Bason; lamp shade, Mrs. C-allagan. MOKOIA SCHOOL COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the Mokoia school committee held recently the headmaster, Mr. H. Kibblewhite, reported that the arrangements for the school concert were well in hand and the public could look forward confidently to spending an enjoyable evening. Distribution of .prizes would take place on the same evening. The committee complimented the headmaster upon obtaining 100 per. cent, pass with his sixth standard pupils.

NORMANBY TOWN BOARD MEETS.

The monthly meeting of the Nornxanby Town Board was held on Tuesday night, the chairman, Mr. E. T. Peach, presiding. Also in attendance were Messrs. E. G. Harrison, C. Coxhead and T. Evans. . The foreman reported that during the month water-tabling and backing-up on the various roads had been proceeded With. Footpaths had been cleaned and raked and tar-patching on the main highways had been done. Pipes hod been opened in Stafford Street and the approach on the hill in Weld Street had been levelled. The tender of Mr. F. Binns for the lease of the unopened part of Bowen Street ti'us’accented.' Several other applications for leases of unopened streets were received, these left with the works co’>-s;ittee to deal with. , It was decided to apply for subsidy on labour from the Unemployment Relief Committee, the works committee being empowered to act with the chairman in engaging labour under this scheme. The cemetery was reported to be in excellent condition, tile soldiers’ plot in particular being in very good order, due to regular mowing and attention.
