FORTY PERSONS KILLED IN BURMA

Twenty-two were killed and many injured in the Pyu area near Toungo in the earthquake experienced throughout Burma this morning. Large numbers of buildings were destroyed and the courthouse and two railway bridges badly damaged at Pyu, causing a suspension of the service between upper and lower Burma.

A fire broke out following the shocks and several shops were gutted. Heavy damage was caused to buildings in Toungo, but Rangoon escaped lightly.
