RAILWAY CROSSING SIGNALS
STANDARD- DEVICE ADVOCATED.
DISCUSSION BY MOTORISTS.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. The quarterly meeting of the South Island Motor Union to-day discussed at length the following remit from the South Canterbury Automobile Association: .‘ That the Government be approached with a view to standardising warning devices at railway level crossings.” The general manager of railways forwarded particulars of future signals to road traffic, one being a hand warning signal given by holding .up a hand. . This signal was declared an absurd proposition and delegates were of opinion that a definite day and night device should be Aimed at. It was decided that the question of other warning signals should be referred to the executive to take what steps it considered advisable after having inspected signs in use.
