W.D.F.U. TOKO FUNCTION.
The Toko branch of the W.D.F.U. held a very successful social afternoon in the Coronation Hall, Toko, on Thursday. A short musical and elocutionary pro* gramme was given as follows: Violin s. js, Mrs. Geo. Cook, accompanied by Mrs. Henderson; vocal solo, Mrs. 0. Vaughan; recitations, Mrs. Oliphant Rowe.; / Among those present were Mesdames Pitt, pliphant-Rowe (Stratford), Cutfield, Wallace and Jacobsen (Tututawa), Jones, Maxwell, Butter, Simmons, Grierson, Henderson, Anderson, Bowen, Stove, Hoby, Bevan, Dagg,. Salisbury, Batten, Lowing, Maunsell; Milne, Petch, Vaughan," Cook, Hobbs, .Douglas, Burgham, Binnie jand Misses'■■Bitrgham, Leo, Maunsell, ■ Milne, /Fan iihfl. Kate Jones. Two competitions were held, the first being ■ won' -by 'Mrs. • Bowen and Mrs. Grierson and: the Misses Fan Jones and N. Burgli’am.'lthe ensuing .draw being won by Miss P. Jonesig/Mr?.- Stove won the “flower-wedding” competition. Afternoon tea was provided l-y local members*

PROGRESS COMMITTEE’S WORK.
The Bitham Progress' Committee met on Thursday, when’ the secretary reported that £B5 .'had been collected for the various Christmas activities. They will include a Father Christmas free gift effort fdr the children, 1400 articles having been purchased. Mr. A. R. Gower offered the use of his conveyance to take. Father Christmas through’ the streets and’ arrangements are being completed to distribute the o-ifts to °the children. ° Other activities for Christmas shop-, ping were.also arranged. .
