NEW PLYMOUTH TRACK TOPICS

- FEILDING HORSES EXERCISE, (Ry “Moturoa.”) Interest was attached to the gallops at New Plymouth yesterday morning by the inclusion of the Feilding performers among those seen on the course. < Miss Chatter (Marsh) and Cornerman (McLeod) covered half a mile at threequarter pace. Both went emoothly. Melissa wag given an easy three-quar-ter pace work task. She ie very forward. Sparkling Morn (McLeod) did halfpace work and was anxious to do betRidgemount and Belle Star worked on the plough. A like task was allotted to Tangiroa. Green Patch and the Bisogne maiden worked together on the plough. Orapai (Davis), who looks none the worse for his trip to Feilding, strode over a circuit on the plough and did his task well. Razor (Eagar) was schooled, but the Quarantine hunter found the battens strange and jumped slowly. He flhould improve with experience. Gibraltar (Marsh) was just beaten by Easter Time (George) over three furlongs, which were cut out in 39aec. Omeo (Marsh) and Manly (Todd) eame home together, the last two furlongs of a circuit being covered in 28 sec. Lady Quex (George) looks a ball of muscle. She was going easily when she covered two furlongs in 2&see. Annoyer (B. George) worked on the plough. Gold Dawn (Marsh) easily accounted fcr Te Atiawa (Davis) over four furlongs which were cut out in 53 3-ssee. Gold Dawn has improved considerably. Royal Finance (Marsh) _ was particularly impressive in covering five furlongs in Imin. ssec. She ifl very forward just now. Hinepuni (George) had to be held back to keep pace with Little Doubt (Marsh) over the last two of three furlongs which were covered in little better three-quarter pace. Singer (Robinson), ran the last three

furlongs of his round on the plough in 41Asec. He looke well. Lady Lulu (George) scampered over half a mile, being eased up at the finish. in 57sec. Crennatown (Todd), who has fined down since Feilding, worked on the plough. y i . TURF TOPICS. • (Ry “Moturoa.’’) TaumartJnui races begin to-day, # ‘ * ■ . * * The first race is timed to start at 11.50 a.m., other events being scheduled for 12.35 p.m., 1.15, 2.0, 2.45, 3.30, 4.20 and 5.10 p.m. • « » • • The Australian-owned two-year-old, Autopay (Tea Tray—La Faix), justified heavy back by taking the Two-year-bld Handicap at the Epsom (Victoria) races on November 27. Where Stakes Are Large. There are probably more large stakes to be won in America than in any other part of the world. ‘Gallant Fox’s wins this season include the following:— Belmont Stakes, £13,208 and £4OO breeders’ premium; Arlington Park Classic Staikee, £l2jftso and £3OO cup; Kentucky Derby, £10,145 and £lOOO cup; Preakness 'Stakes, £10,3’85; and Lawrencb Realisation Stakes, and £5O cup, and he did not monopolise those of £5OO in value to the winner, by any means. A £lOOO cup is certainly a fine trophy, but most owners would prefer specie and a trophy of much less value; There are several two-year-old races of much greater value than are run in England principal winner of that age, has put or Australia. Jamestown, America’s together £20,185 in six wins, Should Win More.

The Peach Brandy—Star Attraction three-year-old Karangapai ran several good races last season without cracking it for a win. He opened the new season in a maiden event at the Waikato meeting and was very unlucky to be beaten by a narrow margin. Karangapai improved on that race to run a close third in the Takapiina (Plate, arid in this richly-endowed hack event he was extremely unlucky not to pay a dividend. The race did him no harm ; and he was responsible for a very fine finishing effort on the concluding day, when he scored from behind in the VauXhhll Handicap. Judging by the manner in which Karangapai accomplished his task the 'best has not yet been seen of him and he seems certain to pick up some good middle-distance events before the end of the season. Over-Boomed?

Prior to the Wanganui spring meeting the Redfern-Meriden filly Korokio wag “boomed” a-s an exceptionally good two-year-old. She won the Debutante Stakes at Wanganui in very easy fashion and this seemed to Substantiate the general contention. When she was beaten into second place at Ellerslie a few weeks laTer the excuse was accepted that the going was against her, but she was decisively beaten at Treptham. The pqblic lined up again at Feilding expecting her to make amends, but her sorry display should cause her stock to slump considerably. The Debutant© winners (have been a poor lot since Killocra and/Arpent won in 1023 and 1924. Kiilperon, Frenzied Finance, Knightlike, 'Speedlight and Simba did very little afterwards. Maidens at Feilding.

With 23 maidens starting in two divisions, on Saturday, and 20 on. Monday, it was only to 'be expected that some decent “cattle” would be unearthed, and at least half-a-dozen were noticed that may see better days. . Sene?ehal, who received honourable mention at Levin, downed a hot order in Laconic in the first division of. the Trial Plate on Saturday, and returned a false price. The Winner is a three-year-bld chestnut •gelding by Chief Ruler—-Elvent, trained by F. 0. McKay at Marton, and Tdmmy Webster got the la?t ounce out him. Knollmere, winner of the second division, is a three-year-old of quality, apd Jia not only won very easily, but record-’ ed much faster time than did Seneschal. Pewa, who acted as runner-up to Knollmere, whs pounced upon as the best of good things on Monday, and duly won in handsome style. Knollmere is by Grandcourt —-Oroziiio, and boasts a fine pedigree. He is trained -by W. H. Dwyer at Wanganui, and touts from that quarter threw in for a good win. Pewa, trained at Greenmeadows by W. McKinnon fbr Mr. J. D. Ormond, is by Arausio—Rarerau, the latter being a Demosthenes mare. Pewa is a tlireh-year-old who will be very much in the limelight during the holidays, and is a very promising gelding. Hinewai, who was not saddled up until Monday, was fancied by his party and showed the way into the straight, but had no chance at the finish with Pewa. Nevertheless, Mr. A. Manguson received a fair return for second, and Hinewai, who is by Chief Ruler—Rewa. Rewa, looks like winning races. Laconic (Lackhain — Our King mdre) and Bhskier (Archery— Murihuku) ran their usual fair races, and of the pair, laconic looks to be the better, though that may not be saying a great deal. Lone Raider (The Raider —Meroze) proved a duffer, but Vidduct (Tonbridge—Lugano) and Chief Savage (Chief Ruler—Signor mare) both finished on well on Monday, and look to be fair horses. Chief Savage, who was ridden by H. Goldfinch, began badly in the middle of a field of 20, and did well to get sb close at the end. He had less than a score of tickets against his number, but will be better backed in a month or so, Beverage, a three-year-old by Tea Tray —Rosita, trained by F. Davis, had Gray’s services ©ack day, but the hard race on Saturday knocked him out for Monday. DEATH OF BEN DEELEY. J / z ■. WELL-KNOWN DOMINION JOCKEY. By Telegraph.-—Press Association.
