DISEASED-TROUT IN WAIRAU
INVESTIGATIONS AT BLENHEIM. TROUBLE IN TIDAL REACHES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Blenheim, Last Night. Because several poor or diseased brown trout known as,“slabs” have been taken from the Wairau River this season the Marlborough Acclimatisation Society sent a specimen to the fresh-water research committee for investigation. Tho research committee says the fish was most interesting as it had a very badly diseased heart. That confirmed other examinations tho committee had made which showed that heart disease usually co-existed with very poor condition. The committee expressed a wish to bo supplied with further examples for examination.
A peculiar feature about the occurrence of “slabs” is that they are found only in tho tidal portions of the Wairau so far as is known.
