BAND CONTEST SELECTIONS
MUSIC CHOSEN FOR FEBRUARY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The selections of test music 'for the New Zealand championship band contest, to be held at 'Wellington in February, are announced. In the A grade thp two test pieces will be Wagner’s “Meistersingers” and Elgar’s “Severn Suite.” which was the championship test at the Crystal Palace contest at Home last September, when the famous Foden’s Band gained first honours. The “Severn Suite,” which is dedicated by the composer “to my fr.icnd George Eernard Shaw,” has not so far been performed in New Zealand. The A grade march will be J. Ord Hume’s “8.8. and C,F.” The B grade selections are “Hamlet,”' by Aipbroise Thomas, and Rimmer’s ay-, ramrement of Mendelssohn’s works. The march will be Ord Hume’s “Flying Squad.” The entries are very satisfactory, comprising 13 A grade and 22 B grade bands For the hyinn test 28. bands have entered.
