SOUTH TARANAKI MATCHES. ■HAWERA CLUB DEFEATS PATE A.. Four rinks of Hawera Club bowlers defeated four Patea rinks at Patea, yesterday by 21 points. Up to the 16th head the weather was fair and the green playing well until an. exceptionally heavy rainstorm made the green dead for the rest of the play. Wins were recorded by three Hawera rinks, R. Eltham defeated Inglewood in the Thursday bowling competition at Eltham yesterday, The local bowlers won on three out of the five rinks, the aggregate scores being Eltham 119, Inglewood 102. Totals 102 110 STRATFORD SINGLES MEDAL. , At the beginning of the season Mr. A.. E. Sayets, a member of the Stratford Club, presented a handsome silver medal with a gold centre, inscribed “Stratford Singles.” This medal is for competition among members, of both Stratford and Avon clubs and has aroused a good deal of interest. I'o open the competition George Smart, the oldest active member of the Stratford Club, was made the first holder. A challenge was immediately forthcoming from J. Masters, president of the Avon Club, but owing to delay in arranging the match, another challenge, put in by T. Lawson, Stratford, at the same time, was accepted. Lawson defeated Smart ami successfully upheld his right to the trophy against W. Ewing in a keen game. A. Dickinson, Avon, played Lawson yesterday afternoon and in a fine game could only draw with the holder, Lawson still retaining sion. The next challenge is that of yV. Harris, ami it is expected the match will be played this evening, A friendly match arranged between Hawera and Avon has been cancelled.
