CANADIAN FARMERS’ PLEA
HEAVY DUMPING OF BUTTER DEMORALISATION OF MARKET. SHIPMENTS FROM NEW ZEALAND. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Vancouver, November 19. A message from Victoria (British Columbia) states that the butter market is depressed io far below the cost of production, according to opinions expressed at a meeting of the advisory board of the Farmers’ Institutes of the province. The demoralisation is said to bo attributable substantially to the Australian treaty, a secondary factor of great immediate importance being the recent enormous importations from New Zealand. It is stated that huge shipments of New Zealand butter are now in cold store in the province awaiting release the moment prices show signs of recovery. Much butter had entered Canada on consignment to brokers to sell at the best prices Obtainable and by virtue of the absence of stated price did not come within the provisions of the antidumping clause. A resolution was passed asking the Minister for Trade and Commerce x o take immediate steps to protect the dairy, sheep and allied industries from further demoralisation. •'
