INGLEWOOD NEWS

SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETS. The usual monthly meeting of the Timlewood school committee was held at the school on Wednesday evening when Messrs Darlow (chairman), Kirk (secretary), Sutton, Reed, Grant, Reeve, Sutherland and Baxter were present. Tlie inspectors’ report was read and proved very satisfactory. _ The dental nurse wrote asking that a pathway be formed to the dental clinic. The secretary was authorised to procure screenings from the borough to form the pathway. The caretaker wrote asking that a pump be procured for spraying the school floors but no action was taken. Mr. Kirk (headmaster) reported that the roll stood at 288, while 256 had been the average attendance during the month. The inspectors had visited the school and had conducted tlie proficiency examination but the results were not to be published yet. The headmaster was authorised to procure prizes costing £7 for presentation at the breaking up ceremony. Considerable discussion took place on the centralisation scheme and it was left in the hands of the chairman to call a public meeting on the Durham Road if it was deemed advisable. WOMEN’S DIVISION MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Inglewood branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs. Marsh presided over a very good attendance. Arrangements were finalised for the yearly produce home cookpry and sweets stall to be held at the Methodist hall gateway on December 13. All members were very enthusiastic and willing to help to make the effoit a successful one.

From funds in hand £5 was voted to the community chest and has been dispatched by the treasurer,' Mrs. Winter. Mrs. Marsh briefly detailed the housekeeper movement in North Taranaki. Mrs. Riley was introduced to the members and proceeded to give a demonstration on what to make from old gramophone records. As she demonstrated with two disused records Mrs. Riley carefully explained the secrets of successful workmanship and the finished articles turned out to be two beautifully shaped dishes. The seven differently shaped fancy dishes on display were very artistic and no one would recognise the decorated and polished bowls as having been fashioned from worn and scratched gramophone records. They were decorated in various ways and designs and hand-painted. The Inglewood Girls’ Friendly Society yesterday held an afternoon at the vicarage when, owing to the showery afternoon, they were obliged to forego outside games and hold all the stalls and games indoors. Despite the weather, there was a very good attendance, and the fancy, sweet and vegetable stalls were well patronised. Games were played and afternoon tea was served. In the evening in the Parish Hall a very successful flag bridge evening and dance was also held by the society. For October the Moa Dairy Company to-day paid £8330 on 222,1431 b. of butterfat at 9d. per lb., and the Kaimiro factory, which, manufactures cheese, paid £764 on 16,6511 b. butterfat at Ud. per lb. CRICKET POSTPONED. Owing to heavy showery weather the Thursday cricket competition match between Waitara and Inglewood, which was to have been played at Inglewood yesterday, had to be postponed. The weather also necessitated the postponement of the match last week.
