TELEPHONES FOR VATICAN
POPE IN VAN OF PROGRESS.
HIS BLESSING OF SYSTEM.
By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 9.50 p.m. London, Nov. 19. The Times correspondent at Rome states that, declaring a desire to be in the vanguard of progress, the Pope blessed the Vatican telephone exchange. He released a lever setting the apparatus in motion and thanked the donors,, an American firm, whose gift included the Pope’s personal telephone of solid gold adorned with his crest and symbols of four evangelists. The exchange’s capacity is 900 numbers. For the Vatican City’s size this is the most extensive of any state in the world. A special device prevents the Pope being called unless he desires.
