Back From New Zealand.
About a year ago M. Polson sent Fuji Yama (Valais—-Malt Crag) and Fleet Flyer (Caravel—Courante) to New Zealand to see what effect a long spell on grass over there would have upon them. They returned recently to Australia, and their trainer is highly pleased with their appearance. Both have developed in marked fashion. Fleet Flyer, who was purchased privately as ; yearling, is a half-sister to Valicare; and Fuji Yama was bought at auction for 900 guineas. A Nom De Course.
In compiling a list of winners of Canterbury classics credited to the late Mr. G. G. Stead, a contemporary ovei’looks the fact that the premier New Zealand hprse-owener. of the SQ’s and 90’s raced under the nom de course of “Mr. G. Fraser” for some time before his identify became generally known. One of the best horses which he owned then , was Le Loup, by Traduccr, with which he won the New Zealand Cup (then called the Canterbury Jockey Club Handicap), the Canterbury Cup, and several important handicaps in Australia. Another notable performer raced under nom de course was Trump Card, also by Traducer, and this horse won the New Zealand Derby Stakes of 187'7.
