LEVIN REVIEW

PROSPECTS FOR TOMORROW ®DG FIELDS GENERALLY CARDED. FORM SHOULD GUIDE BETTOR'S. SPORT PROMISES TO BE KEEN. Judging by th© big fields carded for the Levin Racing Club's annual meeting to-morrow, the gathering promises to° be one of the best the club has yet enjoyed. Th© bettors will have spring form to guide them, and it should not be particularly difficult to sort out th© winners. \. There are 27 in the maiden event and a number of these have shown fair form. Acco (Acre—Kinsem) showed some pace at Marton and Wanganui and is sure to be improved. Attar ran. a fair third at Carterton and has a reputation, while Baskier has a number of placing© to his credit. Dick Whittington is a three-year-old and, being by ■Solferjno, should improve with age. Gambler has raced bn the flat and over hurdles. Hinewai (Chief Ruler—Rewa Rewa) ran .fifth in the maiden races at Marton and Wanganui, on the latter occasion meeting a particularly strong field. Mythology, Onepai (who showed pace at Waverley), Pompadour, Rothen, Seneschal (Chief Ruler—Elevant), TajBaby (Nigger Minstrel—'Little Footsteps), Valrewa and Wallaruh are all worthy of consideration, but Hinewai, Acco, ißaekier and Wallaruh read as well as anything. Adventus and Tunbridge, who head the list in the Manakau Highweight, have not had muoh recent racing. Auctioneer won nicely at Waverley and a small field should suit him. Spearform stays on well, and there was no fluke about his win on Labour Day, when he beat Banbridge, Royal Finance, Arisus and others over a mile. Spearopa promised. well at Marton, but failed badly subsequently. However, he is a likely sort, being by Greyspear from Maropa. The rest do not appeal, and Spearopa. and Spearform may be too good ”0* Auctioneer.

There are some smart hacks in the Weraroa Handicap. This is The Warden’s best distance and he should be all the better for his race at Waverley., Royal Flyer may be short of a race, but Banbridge is very forward and races consistently. Desert Lad and Ling Acre must be considered, and below them ■Some Acre and Auckland Gas are not without chances. .Summed up, it looks as if Ban'bridge, Th© Warden, King Acre and Desert Lad will do best. Another good field is in the Mako Mako Handicap, Hunting Boy may be found to be short of a raee, but Lady Rene has been very consistent lately. Statuary, Pythia and Arajean can run a smart six, aiid then Tea Queen, Projection, Royal King and Great Lady are handily weighted. However, Lady Rene, Arajean- and Statuary should prove hardest to catch, with, the possibility of a surprise com inf from Tea Queen. A baker’s do?en accepted” for the Levin Cup and they are a very even lot. Fernden wop the Waverley , Cup very nicely and, if handled the same way here, must be given a great chance. Paiko won over this diptknee at Otaki, and then ran good, races at TrenthamHe is also in the sprint but he may be set for this race- Black Mint can only be considered as a possible, and Balloon reads better. Blimp goes, well in heavy going and so does Imateagirl, who is back to form again, Keddar and Mountain Heath are not without chances, but Hopwood and Rameses read easily the best of the lightweights, and Hopwo I would be preferred. Summed up, Fernden, Paiko, .Blimp and Hopwood nil seem to possess reasonable chances,

Playground heads the list in the Lake Handicap, but the Acre colt is a solid customer and should handle his 9.2 well, Cluny won at Masterton and Dainty Ways has been in the money lately. Merry Melody and Banbridge must, both be .considered, and below them Spearform, Robbie’s Mistake, Arrowhead, Desert Led and Cessation run on fairly well. However, form pointe to Playground and Cluny being the pick of the bunch, with Cessation and Dainty Ways -the most likely to trouble them.

Fourteen are paid up for in the McDonald Memorial, with the Shorts Handicap winner, Malayan, the top-weight. Paiko possesses an undeniable chance, but he may take on the Cup in preference. Broad Acre goes fast when in form ■ and Mandy should 'be improved by her race at Carterton. Coon Song has struck form, and then Just, An Idea, Equitant, Green Linnet and Limosin are speedy customers. In the absence of Paiko, Equitant, Coon Song and Malayan may be most in demand. Mandy has an outside chance.

Another big field will contest the Hokio Handicap, a five furlong flutter. Trojan Melody ran a good third to Tobaqcoland at Trentham and is very well. Hunting Boy is fast and so js Baskier. Arajean ’ and Ephialtea- <will find plenty of backers, and Leisure, Arrow Boy, Open Cheque and Rothen are emart out from the barrier. The draw for positions at the post will be a deriding' factor in this race, but Trojan Melody, Baskier, Hunting Boy and i Rothen read .as well as anything.
