H er Limond filly Praise proved, herself an exceptionally high-class three-year-o d. by outstaying the Oaks field last and appears to-be the next best of her age to th®.;champion Cylinder. Praise opened her two-year-old career with a cleaiScut- win in the C.J.C. welcome Stakes,-and on the concluding day of the meeting she won the Pioneer Handicap with .a steadier of 9.7 and-cut out the haif-mile'in 47sec. Taken to Auckland arid 'backed down to a very short nrice/'she mihadbuntably lost all form and Her next outing was in-'the'' Dunedin Champagne Stakes, and she-likewise ran a long way below her spring form.. Produced in the Lyttelton Plate at Easter, she failed to finish in a place and was. sent out for . a long spell. ' ■ ' Praise made her reappearance as_ a three-year-old at the Wellington spring meting ' and showed that she .had-lost little of her early brilliance. Tried over a distance in the Derby, she .attracted considerable notice -by • finishing very fast into fourth place. The gallop evidently improved her, and she won the Oaks two days later in-faster .time. Praise is one of the most beautifully bred fillies in the Dominion, being by Limond from Eulogy. Eulogy, who was bred in England in 1911, is by Cicero (the sire of Caravel and Valais) from Kelibia, who was .by Upas from Goletta, by Galopin (Vedette— The Flying Duchess), from Biserta, by the triple crown winner Lord Lyon, a son of Stockwell and Paradigm?. Cicero is ; by Cyllejje (sire of Leinberg, Hymettus, Polymelus, Minoru and other well-known sires) from Gas, by Ayrshire from Illumiriata, by Rosicrucian. Goletta, the dam of Kelibia, was a high-class performer on the turf and won nearly £20,000 in stakes, Biserta, who won the Chester Cup, .was the dam of Utica and was a half-sister 1 to Isabel, the dam of St. Frfisquin, being out of Parma, by Parmesan from Arch’ eress, by Longbow, sire of Toxophilite, who sired Musket. Upas was bred in France. His . sire, Dollar, won the'Goodwood Cup, and his dam traces back to Stockwell.

Limond, who is closely |'elated/to Phalaris, is best known as the sire of Limerick, Agrion, Commendatibn, Honour, Mask, and Cylinder. He. is by Desmond (one of the best sons of St. Simon) from Linda],' by Kendal from Sunrise, by Springfield”'‘('St. Albans—Viridis) from Sunray, by King of the Forest from Sunshine, *by Thormanby. Kendal was by Bend. Or (Derby-winner) from Windermere, by Macaroni from Miss Agnes, by Birdcatcher. Sunrise was a full-sis-, ter to Spring Morn, the dam of Otterden, whose sons Martian and Boniform sired many famous stayers in New Zealand- Sunbeam, the dam of Siinshinej won the St. Leger and was a sister to Marcolle, i dam of the Melbourne Cup winner Statesman.

Eulogy first gave the Turf Pennon (bred to English time) ,by Coriander, Pennon was a good winner and U the dam of Motley, Eysander, Ceremony and other; winners. Yarraldool, by King Rufus, raced in Australia- with, some success.; The next contribution, by Absurd, was Humbug, who won the G.N. Foal Stakes, Champagne Stakes, Hastings Stakes, Hawke’s Bay Guineas and many good sprint races. Then oame Fulsome, by Absurd, a fine sprinter, and in the following year there was another Absurd filly in Epitaph. She won the G.N. Foal Stakes, C.J.C. Welcome Stakes, Hastings Stakes and ■ Wellesley Stakes'. For the third year in succession Eulogy threw a filly to Absurd, this one being Homage, who was a fair performer and has given, the Turf Episode, a great sprinter, and Honour, who'won the New Zealand Derby-

In 1923 Eulogy visited Limpnd, and this mating produced Commendation, whose long list of triumphs included CJ.C. Welcome Stakes, Champagne Stakes, Wellesley Stakes, Avondale Guineas (deaj-heat with Lygander), G.N. Derby, G.N. St. Leger, N.Z,. Derby, Hawke’s Bay Guineas, Awapuni Gold Cup, New. Zealand St. Leger and many good handicap races. The’ following year Eulogy , went back to Absurd apd dropped Eulalie to him. Eulalie/l won ' .the C.J.C. Champagne Stakes and. the Stewards’ Handicap, but broke down and died. To Thespian, Eulogy threw her only failure,. Pedestal; in 1926. In the following year she went back to.ljmond, and to this consort produced Praise.
