BRITISH GOVERNMENT’S SCHEME

ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION URGED

During a debate in the House of Com mons last night on Palestine the Undersecretary for the Colonies, Mr. Drummond Shiels, announced that .ritain would make itself responsible for a Palestine development loan of £2,500,000.- The de bate was mainly concerned with discussion on the Government’s recent White, P a P® r - On behalf of the Government both Mr. Shields and the Prime Minister reiterated the Government’s intentions to stand by the full mandate and carry out the policy of-the 1922 White. Paper. Every opportunity would be given for the . estal ish ment of a national home for Jews consistent with the. obligations imposed on the Government by the other side of the mandate, and it- would work for the prosperity and happiness of the whole country. . The Prime Minister said the Jews must believe the Government would go as fast as it could within 'economic limits and so as to .promote economic unity. He paid a fine'- tribute 'tp! their development work and to the general. benefits the Jews had conferred oh the country. . They need only realise that the Jewish’national home coy.d best'be promoted by economic cb-operation with the Arabs.
