TALENTED YOUNG PIANIST
INTEREST dF TOWNSPEOPLE. Enthusiasm was the keynote of the meeting called last night to devise means of enabling Miss Mary Crawshaw to continue her musical studies at the Royal Academy, London, and judging by the confidence of those present the success of the venture seems assured. The Mayor, Mr. H. V. S. Griffiths, presided. The chairman said all were, aware of the brilliance of the talented young pianist, who had risen to such heights in the musical world. As citizens they were proud that a New Plymouth girl was one of the six in Australia and New Zealand to win such high distinction as a scholarship at the Royal Academy. - Mr. W.. H. Skinner suggested that the musical societies in New Plymouth should be approached with regard to the organisation of a monster concert, which he felt sure would be a great success.
..Mr. J. Connell considered a concert would bring the appeal before the public.
It was decided to leave the matter in the hijnds of the committee. The following were elected a general committee; Messrs. H. V. S. Griffiths, J. Connell, J. Dobson, J. McPhillips, J. McLeod, R. L. Cooper, J. H. Sheat, Huggett, A. C. Downes, Broad, Father Min-oo-ue, Mesdames Huggett, P. C. Davie, Larkin and Broad. Mr. A. G. Downes was elected secretary.
