NEW PLYMOUTH LEAGUE. REVIEW OF THE PAST YEAR. The following review of the past year’s activities by the New Plymouth Tourist and. Expansion League is contained in the annual report, whjoh is at present being circulated amongst members: — The committee has pursued its policy of advertising the attractions of Mount Egmont and New Plymouth, Folders containing views and descriptions of sights in and around Now Plymouth have, been purchased at a cost of £49, besides which a sum of £5O has been expended in advertising in various booklets issued throughout New Zealand. The league during the year has subsidised the Huatoki Domain Board, the Oakura Reserve, and other local committees, besides contributing to the cost of, entertaining visiting farmers, the total amount being £72. The statement of accounts and bal-ance-sheet accompanying this report show the league to be in a reasonably sound financial position, the balancestanding at £46 8s 7d, as against £2B 14s 7d on June 30, 1929. Although the’ cash at bank is shown as £6l. 15s 7d there are outstanding liabilities amounting ’to £37 ss. ■ > The Tourist Department realised to some extent the value of the work done by the league, and has agreed to grant a subsidy of £75. The drive organised in November last realised, in spite of the depression, the sum of £lBO, and the executive trusts that the public will again realise the value of the work done by the league, and, when the date is decided upon, will come to tho league’s assistance and contribute liberally to the fund. The inquiry bureau in Egmont Street has handled many hundreds of inquiries during the year, and is now recognised throughout New Zealand and Australia as a source of information regarding New Plymouth and Taranaki in general.

The thanks of the. league are due to the proprietors of both the local'papers for their .unfailing readiness to assist the league at all times; to the Taranaki Automobile Association, the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce, and the Egmont Park Board, for co-operation in the interests of visitors to the -town and the mountain; to Messrs. Duff and Wynyard for' their honorary services as auditors, and to all those who so willingly assisted with the drive for funds. ,

Thus for the purpose of making known the beauties, of Mt. Egmont, Pukekura Park with its unique fernery, and other attractions; the various beach reserves, Kawaroa Park, the different camping grounds, and the many beautiful patches of natural bush throughout the district, the league, exists and. asks the continued support of the business community. The statement of receipts and expenditure shows a balance of £l7 14s excess of income over expenditure. The income comprised £179 15s from subscriptions, £l5O Government subsidy and £2 15s from sales of maps and envelopes, a total of £332 10s. The expenditure was made up of £66 I4s lid donations and grants, £ll6 2s 3d for advertising and printing folders, £l2 Is for photographs, £lO4 secretary’s salary, £7 15s IQd general expenses, and £8 2s depreciation on camera owned by league.
