Frederick Limburg and Joseph Kalanosky, convicted of attempting to break onen a bank cafe at Coonabarabran, were each sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment. Kalanoskv \vas\remanded on a further charge of shooting at a constable. The<two burglars who attempted to rob the Coonabarabran branch of the Bank of New South Wales were caught red-handed by the police after an exchange of shots. William Thomas, aged 22, a ledger-keeper, was the only occupant of the bank building and was awakened by the burglars, who hit him on the head with a piece of iron, gagged and bound him. He, however, managed to get free and escaped unnoticed. He brought the police, who found the burglars in the act of wrecking the strongroom door and commauUed them to surrender. Several shots were fired, the burglars using Thomas’ revolver. Finally they submitted to arrest. The bank’s strongroom contained about £GQOO. >
