MODEL OF EARLY CLIPPER
SAILING VESSEL .OF PIONEERS. EXHIBITION IN NEW PLYMOUTH. -A remarkable model of the clippers Vhich used to bring the colonists from England to New Zealand in the fifties and sixties is on exhibition just inside the main entrance to the New Plymouth iibiarv. The model, a three-master complete ‘in every detail, was made by an ; innate of the New Plymouth gaol dur- ■> ng the term of office as gaoler of Mr. iosworth.Y • ■The moddl came into the possession >f Mrs. Dockerill, late Mayoress of New .’lymouth, and during her absence her u-.phew Mr. Dockerill took charge of it. ■I; was thought desirable to leave it on dan ,to the. New Plymouth museum,. . Mr. W.-M. 1 Skinner has- ‘been trying or some time to secure a model of one >f the early ships for the benefit of. the younger generation. He' lias written io the South Kensington museum makr.g inquiries but so far has received .10 reply. ■ The present model will be shortly daced in the old colonists’ niuseum. The inipdel is placed in a case containing Maori relics collected by the late Sergeant Bosworth of the 57th Regiment ...during-.the fighting in South Taranaki n ’O3 and ,’65.
