GENERAL AND PERSONAL ITEMS. ! (From Our Own Correspondent.) The formal opening for the season of tlie Tainui tennis courts took place in ideal weather in the week-end. There was 'a large gathering of visitors from Mokau, Mahoenui and Aria. The president (Mr. A. Bartlett) extended a hearty welcome to visitors and declared the courts open for play. Afternoon tea was served by the lady members. The new committee has repaired the netting and effected improvements generally. A series of card evenings is being conducted to raise funds for improvements. The annual meeting of the Awakino Hall Society was held in the hall oh Friday. Mr. L. R. Jones was in the chair. There was a good attendance of residents. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read. The balancesheet was adopted. The chairman congratulated the committee —especially the ladies—on the excellent credit balance of over £lOO. The following officers were elected: Chairman, Mr. L. R. Jones; secretary, Mr. 11. Gray; committee, Messrs. J. R. Terrill, J. N. Bryant, A. Bartlett, A. Richards, J. Faulds, H. L. Northern and G. Thomas. At a meeting of the ladies .with the hall committee on Tuesday it was decided to call tenders for erecting a room 50 feet by 10 feet to consist of a supper room 40« feet by IQ feet and a kitchen 10ft. by 10ft. Mr. Northern offered to draw plans of the proposed new room and to oversee the building operations. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Winstanley have returned from a nip to the South Island. Miss D’Arth, Hawera, motored to Awakino during the week-end. Mrs. Campbell Rigg, who has been spending a few weeks with Mrs. E. Carrington, has left for her home in Kaponga. . Mrs. A. Waite has returned from New Plymouth. Mrs. Sheen spent the week-end in New Plymouth. Mr. W. Caulton has resumed duties w the post office. Mr. K. Whitelaw, who has been relieving Mr. Caulton, has returned to New Plymouth. Mrs. E. Marsh is making a good recovery from her operation.
