By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 9.40 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 31. The checking of the preference votes cast at the recent State elections is approaching completion. The State Treasurer's (Mr. B. S. B. Stevens) re-election for the Croydon electorate is now assured. Sir Thomas Helley (Nationalist) has been elected for Burwood by a narrow margin. Air. Jarive (Nationalist) for Ashfield seems certain of victory, but at Bondi the Nationalist, Air. Jaques, has 'been defeated by Mr. Landa (Labour) by 821. Air. Hedges, the Country Party candidate, has retained the Aldnaro seat by less than 260 votes.. Four country seats are still in doubt.
