The centre of the disturbance is the little port of Sinigallia, in the Adriatic, where 20 bodies were recovered from the wrecked houses. Several are dead 'at Ancona, where there was serious damage. Vesuvius is active and is belching smoke and ashes.
One hundred persons of the injured were brought into Ancona to-day. There was terrible alarm among the peasantry of the district who had not forgotten the earthquake 200 miles to thg southjvard three months ago.
At Senigallia a chulch roof collapsed during early Mass, killing a priest and eight of. the congregation.
The tower of the Church of the Haly Sacrament at Ansona also dollapsed and other historic buildings were seriously damaged. Fortunately most of the people were astir at the time of the disaster.
