PRISON SENTENCE CHANGED.
MAGISTRATE GRANTS RE-HEARING

Auckland, Last Night.
Seven days’ gaol without the option ef a fine was the. sentence passed on Albert Edward Cousins in the Police Court for causing unnecessary suffering to a dog, but a re-hearing of the case was granted and the penalty was' reduced to a fine of £5 and costs. . , It v-us stated that Cousins took an hour ,to kill a small pup, using an iron bar and hammer. Defendant said the dog went mad and attacked the baby. Counsel said Cousins’ employer was willing to pay the fine.
