SULTRY SYDNEY WEATHER
HOT SPELL ON HOLIDAY. Hot and sultry conditions prevailed for the holiday in' Sydney on Monday, October 6. By 11 a.m. the temperature had reached 80deg., and the reading remained above that level until 4.30 p.m. The maximum of 85.5 deg. was recorded at 2.30 p.m., and this was the highest reading since April 1. Nightfall brought little relief, and the temperature at 9 p.m. was 72.4 deg. The highest temperature in the State was 92deg. at' Wilcannia. For those fortunate enough to be at the seaside the weather was ideal, but conditions in the city , and the western suburbs were trying. ' Several cases of slight sunstroke were treated at various city and suburban ambulance stations. Several other people collapsed from the effects of the excessive heat. Horace Mason, aged nine, of Darlinghurst, was found lying on Bondi Beach in the afternoon in a state of collapse. He was taken to a hospital where he was admitted suffering from sunstroke.
