ANNUAL MEETING OF SOCIETY.

REVIEW OF YEAR’S ACTIVITIES.

The'annual meeting of the Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society was held, at New Plymouth yesterday, when Mr. H. C. Sampson presided over an attendance of about 40 members.

In moving the adoption of the report -and balance-sheet (already published), Mr. Sampson congratulated the society on a successful year. At the beginning of the year he had made reference to the necessity for increasing the membership. A canvas had proved very successful and the membership was increased to 900, which was considered very satisfactory. : He asked members io help in the endeavour this; year, to reach the 1000 mark. The winter show, which was generally recognised as the best from the financial point of view, bad netted ••ver £5OO. This was due to the way iu which the cake had been sold and to the support of the-public. He referred to ~the able manner in which the ladies, had attended to the catering at both shows.

Brief reference was made io the work being carried, out by Messrs. Smith and Haines at the Katere experimental area. He wished to impress on members the necessity for showing appreciation of t. ho work being done at Katere. During the past 12 months the Boys’ and Girls’ (Hubs movement had been carried on successfully. Encouraging responses to the wprk ; of.. the? society were received. ' Mr. G.
