TROUSERS CREATE INTEREST
SIR T. WILFORD’S CHEAP PAIR. AGENTS CONFIRM THE PRICE. By Telegraph—Press Ajan.—Copyright. London, Oct. 14. .Sir Thomas, Wilford’s cheap trousers have created ■■ remarkable interest, especially in the North of England, where a controversy has been aroused over the price quoted —27id< The agents concerned; however, affirm that this is the actual selling price. Sir Thomas Wilford received a letter enclosing a cheque for 2s 6d and requesting him to send a pair of his famous trousers, but he returned it saying he did not deal therein. Sir Thomas Wilford sent Mr. Forbes a pair of smart striped trousers, not implying any reflection on Mr. Forbes’ appearance, but pointing out the seriousness of Britain’s free trade position. “I bought these trousers in Leeds for 2s 3 Id,” said Sir Thomas, “They ar® of good quality, made in Italy, brought carriage paid to Leeds and sold in large quantities at prices 100 per cent, below the lowest Britishers are able to reach. The point I wish to make is that, even the suggested imposition of 10 to 15 per cent, ad valorem duty on foreign goods will not be of advantage to Britain. The trousers will then sell at 2s 6Jd.”
