, (From Our Own Correspondent.) The sunshine at the week-end seemed to entice everyone out-of-doors. Tlie tennis courts and bowling greens were energetically used, while fishermen with their rods and nets were numerous on all the rivers. Several largo catcherhave been obtained; one bag of 17 and another of 34 were reported :aught from a Pungarehu stream, but so far no largo bags have been heard pf from either the Warea or WaiweranU} Rivers. The fish in these streams must be either very timid or not plentiful. The Warea Tennis Club held its annual meeting on Saturday. Mr. E. E. Chapman was re-elected president and Mr. H. Wells was again elected seers tary. The club intends opening the courts to-morrow. The bowlers will open the green the same day. Several inquiries have been .made a>Warea Domain, and much disappoint garding the experimental plots in, th“ ment has been expressed that these experiments are not being brought to n definite issue.
The welcome fall of rain during the last few days has cheered the farmers considerably, and already a rapid growth of grass can.be noticed. The directors of the Warea Dairy Company have decided not to put up the test sheets for the suppliers’ inspection as has been the custom, ever, since the starting of the factory nearly a quarter of a century ago. It is understood that the posts have now been laid for the fencing of the Tapiri Nikau pa, and the trustees arc endeavouring tc have it ring-fenced for future operations. A number of whitebaiters visited the mouth of .the Warea River during le week, and among them Mr. Bell (New Plymouth), who is trying to procure young eels and to further prove the theory that the male eel never enters, the rivers but remains in the sea. It is believed that Mr. Bell was successful from obtaining these eels from among the whitebait caught. Mr. Keith Wells has had to undergo an operation but he is now progressing ■favourably.
