PIG RAISING INDUSTRY
COMPULSORY GRADING URGED
DEPUTATION TO MR. RANSOM
By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Wellington, Last Night.
A request for a system of the compulsory grading and the sale of all pigs on hook weights was made to the acting Prime Minister and the Minister of Agriculture by a deputation of New Zealand pig breeders and bacon, curers to-day. It was contended that if such a system was not introduced' there was a . danger of bhe industry going out of existence. Mr. E. A. Ransom said any innovation would have to be brought about by gradual processes. It had been suggested that the standardisation of cheese had not been an unmixed blessing. He could not imagine that, the grading of pork would injure the industry, .nt there might be "'other detrimental factors. He understood that' legislation was not required but that the system could be arranged by regulation and he hoped that whatever was done would be in the interests of the industry as a whole.
