ALLEGATIONS OF BURGLARY
FOUR MEN AND A MOTOR-CAR. ARREST MADE IN EARLY MORNING By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. The taking of evidence in a ease in which Allan Arthur Mclntosh, Ronald Hugh Mclntosh, James Cameron and Frederick Quinn were charged with attempted breaking and entering at Waipukurau on the .night of September 20 was proceeded with at the Napier Magistrate’s Court to-day before justices. In addition Allan Arthur Mclntosh was charged that on or about July 25, 1930, at Port Ahuriri, he did break and enter the warehouse of Ellison and Duncan ahd steal therefrom cheques, cash and postal notes to the value of £ll4 6s 7d,.' 5s worth of penny stamps, one manicure set and two bottles of whisky, of a total value of £ll5 16s 7d. On this charge Mclntosh was remanded till October 24: Detective-Sergeant Fitzgibbon elated that on September 20 Mr. Harker, manager of the Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Cooperative Association at Waipukurau, proceeded to the firm’s premises about midnight, when he saw three men making for the office door. He called on them to stop, but they immediately bolted over the fence to a motor-car, which was almost in motion. Witness called again on them to stop, but liad he not jumped clear he would have been run over. However, he obtained a good view of the car. About 3.30 o’clock next morning the four accused, men were arrested on the Taradale Road near Napier, when all denied having been near Waipukurau that night. Evidence was given that a car had left marks in soft material at the roadside at Waipukurau, while a tyi'e of the car in which the men were showed that the car had been in soft material that night. At the conclusion of a lengthy hearing accused pleaded not guilty and were committed to the Supreme Court for trial. ,
