AN IRISH PROPHECY.
A- curious prophecy by an; Irish victor reaches me: that ip -time to come, and sooner, than may 'now seem likely, a royal Governor-General .will be in residence, at Dublin. If so, King. Edward’s dream’is corning .true. . When, as Prince of -Wales, he - grew tired of a. ceaseless round * of- town hall openings and foundation stope layings, - and was not even' allowed access to State papers, he suggested that he would serve, a .much njore-usefui purpose in Ireland. But his .Royal Mother ' would not; hear .of 4hat. .So' now,- though a ; gradually , emerging Free State may not want to admit-any-thing, of the kind, sonje of her-most loyal-supporters are Feeling-a< loss - .of social-prestige,-_ mainly through.;-the absence-of; British- army officer^...-than whom .nobody wastever more- welcome in any Irish household. These. may- /not return, hut a ‘ subsidiary Court; in. the with, one of the princes afrits head;/would, it-is’.argued,--at least, restore an ojd glamour,, though. it, might not approach.- in . any .way .the .rigours of the former-castle regime -or- the formality .• of the Court of St. .James. -. * YORK COTTAGE. ■ ■,
One. of. the reasons why .the King and Qu?en have decided to . make ■ a • short visit Sandringham before going to Bal-
moral Castle is, 'j •understood, to inspect. the renovations and alterations which afe - . being carried out a,t some of the residences near the “Big House.” A'mbno-"the houses where workmen have been busy is York Cottage, which during the -lifetime, of King Edward and Queen Alexandra was the home of the King, and' Queen, -it. is quite on the cards, I,’h<?a'r,‘;tliat it .may be the future residence of-The Duke and Duchess of York. - -Since-the-King- and..'Queen have lived at the “Big House” York Cottage -has--stood more-- or -less -untenanted. Hitherto,' the Duke and Duchess have stayed at Sandringham House when they' iave been witll the K j n = Queen in Norfolk, ■•'.and sometimes the accommodation has been rather severely taxed. "If'expectations mature, the Duke and Duchess will take up their residence at York Cottage during the next' Cliri&tiriastide ’ and special attention is being paid to the nursery quarters, . »
