SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. TRANSFER OF TWO TEACHERS. The monthly meeting of the Mangatoki school committee was held in the schoolroom. There was a full attendance. Air. Farnell, head tecaher, reported the rail was 72 with an average attendance of 65.. The Education Board, supplied the grading particulars of the highest applicants for the vacancies on the staff and notified its intention of appointing Mr. Mahon and Miss Petersen. Mr. Farnell said farewell to the committee. - He thanked the' members for the courtesy and consideration always extended to him. Mr. Marx, chairman, regretted the circumstances necessitating the- transfers.' The reduced- roll had resulted in the school losing two high ra-ade teachers and a reduced capitation in future although the maintenance costs would be about the same. He wished Mr. Farnell success in his new appointment. OPENING OF THE TENNIS SEASON. The Mangatoki Tennis Club opened its season on Thursday. There was a . large attendance of members and visitors from neighbouring clubs. The afternoon tea was provided by the ladies of the club. . Mr. R. D. Douglass extended a welcome to the visitors and.new members, and trusted all would enjoy the afternoon’s play. Prospects for the success of the club were very bright and he hoped at the season’s end he would be able to congratulate players on their successes as well as their sporting spirit. , „ . In the' evening a dance was held in the hall. Although not largely attended the function was a very sociable and enjoyable one. Mrs. Attrill s orchestra provided music and extras were played by Misses R. Perry and D. Nicholas. Mr. L. Pease was master of ceremonies and honorary secretary. Counter attractions seriously interfered with the attendance.
