Smart work by the brigade quelled an outbreak of fire in'the business- area of Blenheim at an early hour this morning. The. fire occurred in a shop in Marken Street occupied by R. G. Smart, clothier and mercer, and W. Bernitt, hat manufacturer. Extensive damage was done to the contents of the shop, but that hat I factory escaped with practically no damage. The stock of hats, however, in Berratt’s shop was badly damaged. The premises were owned by I’. Kerris and covered for £<>Uo in the Commercial Union Ofliee. Berratt’s stock was insured for £<>so in the Phoenix Oliiee and £lst on the fittings in tiie Sun Ofliee. Berratt’s stock and materials were insured for £BOO in the Sun Ofliee.
