The driver apparently went off tile road when going down a small hill to pass two oncoming cars, one of which was endeavouring to get ahead. Both vehicles passed Griggs, who then turned to the centre of the road, lost control and applied all the brakes. The car capsized. The driver was killed outright, the baby dying in. a private -hospital at Palmerston North an hour after admission. The others escaped unhurt, although the top portion of tile car was reduced to matchwood.
