CAR SMASH KILLS TWO
; BABY—GRANDFATHER PALMERSTON NORTH PARTY MOTOR OVERTURNS AT AWAHURI ALL BRAKES APPLIED ON HILI* By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. An accident resulting in the death of a well-known Palmerston North undertaker, Henry Herbert Griggs, arfd his 12-months-old grandson Peter Brace, occ- -1 this afternoon on the main Palmerston-Wanganui highway, half a mile on the Bulls side of Awahuri. Grid’s was accompanied in the car by ]iis°daughter, Mrs. R. Brace, her fant son and Mrs. Latty and Mr." Williams. The driver apparently went off tile road when going down a small hill to pass two oncoming cars, one of which was endeavouring to get ahead. Both vehicles passed Griggs, who then turned to the centre of the road, lost control and applied all the brakes. The car capsized. The driver was killed outright, the baby dying in. a private -hospital at Palmerston North an hour after admission. The others escaped unhurt, although the top portion of tile car was reduced to matchwood.
