PREPARING FOR THE NEW SEASON NEW PLYMOUTH MEMBERS MEET. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Rifle Club was held last night, Mr. J. G. Turnbull presiding over an attendance of ten. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet the president said that the position of rifle clubs under the new conditions was not very clear to him, but there was no doubt they would be able to carry on and there should be plenty of ammunition. This year they would have moie use of the range than last year. With ie<mrd to miniature shooting,- the men s branch was not going along so well, but the ladies’ branch was making excellent progress. . , The question of indemnity for marKers was raised-by Mr. Mackenzie. The chairman stated that inquiries had been made and it had been found that each marker had to be insured separately, which would be a costly business. Members held that as long as strict mill-, tary rules were carried out on the range there ' would be no need to insure the markers. The incoming committee was recommended to make further inquiries. The annual report, as previously pub-; lished, was adopted. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £l2 16s sd. Among the receipts the chief items were subscriptions £8 ss, sales of ammunition and collections on the range £l6 Us 6d, donations £5 ss. The chief items of expenditure were marking £l2, purchase of ammunition £5 10s, trophies £5 6s. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Lieut.-Colonel Weston; president, Mr. George; deputy-presidents, Messrs J. -Robertson and J. H. Taylor; a number of vice-presidents; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. Armitage; assistant secretary, Mr. J. Ramson; committee, Messrs S. Higgs, G. E.' Pearson, W. R. Bell and J. G. Turnbull; handicappers, Messrs Turnbull and. Taylor; selection committee, the president, the two deputy-presidents arid Mr. Higgs. ' ). ■ The opening day was fixed for the first Saturday in October. Special invitations are to be sent -to the Okato Club and the Neiw Plymouth harriers. During the period of suspension of military training the club decided to issue invitations to territorials "J 10 wished to keep up their musketry training to attend the club’s practices. -. The price of ammunition was fixed at 6d per packet, the same as last year; The club decided to make representations to the New Zealand Rifle Club executive and the member for the district asking that rifles and supplies of ammunition be issued either free of charge or at nominal cost to sworn-in members of rifle clubs. The secretary was voted an honorarium of £5 ss. Two new members were elected.
