SAFETY OF HYDRO SCHEMES
RUMOUR CONCERNING WAITAKI . DENIAL BY THE MINISTER. ' By .Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Mr. J. A. MacPherson asked the Minister of Public Works in the House of Representatives to-day whether he had heard rumours or had had reports from the engineers that the foundations at the Waitaki hydro-electric scheme were faulty, and if he would ask Professor Hornell, "who "was at present investigating the position at Arapuni, to make an inspection of Waitaki. The Hon. W. B. .Taverner stated that he had not heard any rumours, nor had he had any unfavourable reports from the engineers. However, he had made arrangements for Professor Hornell to inspect both the Waikaremoana and Waitaki schemes after he had completed his work at Arapuni, and to make a report to the Government,
