WAR CARTOONIST
WIFE SEEKING DIVORCE.
BAIRNSFATHER AND ACTRESS
New York, Aug. 26,
When Captain Bruce Bairnsfather, the famous creator of the war character “Old Bill,” was left by his wife in New York in May to write a play in collaboration with Miss Constance Collier, a well-known actress, Mrs. Bairnsfather never suspected that their collaboration would pass the bounds of art and she sailed for her home in England. Now the wife has returned and served her husband with papers in a separation action and has drawn up papers for an absolute divorce. And, to cap the climax, she has private detectives and attorneys scurrying on the elusive trail of her former friend and fellowcountrywoman, Miss Collier. The process-servers hunting Miss Collier have not yet been able to place in the 'hands of' the actress the papers which will inform her that Mrs. Cecilia Bairnsfather wants £20,000 from her for the supposedly stolen affections of her artist husband.
