VALUE OF WOMEN POLICE
CONTROVERSY IN ENGLAND. . OFFICIAL REPORT SECURED. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 5.5 p.m. London, August 30. Whether the women police of London should be increased or reduced is at present a subject of official review. Miss Dorothy Peto, formerly director of the Liverpool women police patrols, an unofficial body, has devoted two months at the instance of the. Home Office to investigating the problem. At phesent there are 300 policewomen in London, but the movement has in no wise the unanimous support of the judicial, police or public authorities. It is contended that women are hot suitable on the grounds that they should not be required to perform duties involving physical force. It is also contended that women prisoners are more likely to tell the truth to men than to women. ?
The problem of women police in London is likely to be settled by Miss Peto’i report, which, the Daily Telegraph today forecasts, will strongly favour increasing, the number, despite all objections.
