NEGLIGENCE CAUSES DEATH
YOUNG DRIVER FOUND GUILTY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hamilton, Aug. 26. A collision between two cars on the Morrinsville-Hamilton Road at Newstead on the evening of May 8 in which a young man, Thomas Shaw, was killed, led to the appearance of' his cousin, Hector John Shaw, aged 20, in the Supreme Court on a charge of negligently driving so as to cause death. After a retirement of three hours the jury returned a verdict of guilty with a recommendation to mercy on account of the prisoner’s youth. ' The evidence showed that the road was clear and both vehicles had a cleat view of each other. Accused attributed his vehicle’s skidding to'striking a pothole in the road. . Sentence was deferred.
