CLAIM MADE FOR NEW AWARD STRANGE POSITION REVEALED. TWO ASSOCIATIONS APPEAR. By Telegraph.—Prean Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. Unusual, circumstances were revealed when the Council of Conciliation met at Palmerston North to-day to consider an application by the Wellington Dairy Factory Managers’ Industrial Union of Workers for an increase in wages and other improvements in the present working conditions. The union of workers was represented by Messrs. C. Gough, J. A. Brooking and E. Mcßrierly, and Mr. R. Fulton (New Plymouth) appeared as agent. The employers were represented by Messrs. J. W. Rotlden and P. J.iSnjall. . The, proceedings were taken in commit-' tee and at the conclusion the Commissioner, Mr! P. Hally, intimated that unusual circumstances had prevented anything being accomplished. .. ~ Y From statements made it appears that two associations of managers are in existence. , I'irstly there is a union of workers registered under the Act and which claimed that tho majority of' the. managers had been enrolled as members of .that parti- ' cular organisation. On , the other hand there .was a section of workers who had banded themselves together but who did not claim to have any registration. Nevertheless they too claimed the major portion pf the ‘ managers ■ within their fold., ' Asthe last mentioned organisation proposed to meet on Monday next to consider the position the proceedings'were adjourned in the hope that an amalgamation, of the two sections would be Brought about. ; . Should that'hope not be fulfilled it will' Be; necessary to refer the position to the Court iof Arbitration for advice whether an : award should be made or otherwise. Should the court determine in the affirmative tho parties will be called together again and an endeavour will be made to arrange, matters as'provided by the Arbitration Act.
