DEPARTURE OF MR. FORBES

coon wishes of parties

By Telegraph.—-Press Association

Wellington, Last Night. Speaking on the motion to adjourn the House, Mr. Coates took the opportunity to extend to the' Prime Minister the best wishes of the Reform Party for a pleasant trip to the Imperial Conference. They trusted he would meet with every success, and felt he would represent New Zealand with credit tojiimsclf and to the Dominion. They knew that in the last two weeks they had not made the path easy for the Prime Minister, but they knew he would realise that the strong criticism was made for better legislation. Mr. H. E. Hollandt said the Labour Party joined with Air. Coates in extending good wishes to Mr. Forbes. They hoped the Imperial Conference’would be a success, and that those views which made for the progress of the nations and the peace of the world would receive front-rank consideration.

Mr. Forbes, in reply, expressed his thanks for the good wishes and for the co-operation and goodwill shown by members of the House during a particularly strenuous period. He thought he was right in saying that never before in the history of the New Zealand Parliament had so much contentious legislation been put through in so short a 6 time. That would not have been possible had he not had the co-operation of the members. He recognised the importance of his mission in attending the Imperial Conference. He knew the sentiment in New Zealand towards Britain was very strong and very deep, and it was his wishs.that he might be of some service in maintaining the very close relationship of the past and in maintaining that unity of the British Empire that would be of benefit to the peace of the world.
