' PAKURANGA & HAWKE’S BAY TO-DAY’S fields under review I THREE-YEAR-OLDS RESPECTED. WEIGHTS FAVOUR JUVENILES. (By “Moturoa.”) Thfc Pakuranga and. Hawke’s Bay Hunt Club meetings to-day are invest- ' ed with more than usual interest inasmuch as a large numbey of the new iaeason’s three-year-olds will be seen in ‘ action and, because, the scale of weights is decidedly in their favour, they will claim a considerable amount of respect.

On his form at the Auckland, winter aneetinw the public will be looking for PENNYPLAIN in this event, and he is said to be a good one. Mashoor would be better suited by the big fences and probably Spalpiko will worry the favourite most. .

Amonrr the older division Volimond, Unoco, Cruachan, SirMoud and Gay Cockade were all good winners last Beason and Karapoti, Biddy Comet and Sub-Editor showed pace in two-year-old events. While Cruachan may vvipd •up favourite, Principal and KARAPOTI may be too speedy for him.

Nothinw here has shown better forin in the last few months than True Blood, who won the Parliamentary Handicap ht his last start. To-day he is carrying 101 b. less. Maori Boy won some good races last season and Nancy Lee has been consistent of late. However, the distance will trouble the mare most Hi’h Pitch showed a glimpse of his old form in the Whyte Handicap last month, but he is a bad horse to follow. However, he is galloping well at Ellerslie. Standfast is expected, to do better this season and on his Auckland form is certainly entitled to respect. Pompeius may ; not be quite ready, and then there is Barometer, who won last year. Of the lightweights nothing is being diiicussed more than Hannibal, who won a division of the Jervoie Handicap, and the Catmint gelding shows signs of developing into a good middledistance performer. However.- a trio that represent the best form are without doubt, TRUE BLOOD, Standfast and High Pitch.

• On the strength of his second to Aurora Borealis in the Winter Steeplechase, Mashoor does not look to be bad'ly treated in this race and, provided he has gone on the right way he must be considered. 0110 khe hardest to . beat. Odin is a good jumper, and ran third in the . Great” Northern Steeples, but he failed badly at Trentham. St. Warrigal showed fair form at Auckland and is a speedy jumper. His greatest difficulty will be to see the journey out. Spalpiko has a chance but does not appeal greatly and, on form, the best credentials are shown by MASHOOR, St. Warrigal and Odin.

Sir Mond will mis* h’S usual . pilot, Hector Gray, and, at all events, is not in great demand. A bout of hurdling jnay not have hurt Carlaiis, but the Australian-bred Trishna should do better. Principal has his quota of admirers, but the world remembers the good form shown by Rosahire at Trentham, Catoma is another with prospects, but the public opinion will favour ROSSHIRE, Catoma and Trishna. Gold Money runs her beet races at Ellerslie arid scored at the winter .meeting with 8.5 and 9.2. The Welcome Stakes winner Royal Ruler showed pace above the average, and he should be a poor winner this season. Prince of Orange did fairly well at Trentham and does - best when the going is heavy. Lucy Rose will not be neglected, but ■Mr, Hannon’s candidate, Chromadyne, emerges into open company with a nice weight. He will not long be off the winning list. Envoy has a chance, and further down the list Honiton catches the eye. It should be a good race, but it will- not be surprising if Gold Money and Royal Ruler outpace the others.

HAWKE’S BAY HAPPENINGS. There will be some small field* at Hastings to-day, but nevertheless racing should be interesting. Postman promises to be a warm order for the Riverslca Hurdle*, in which Purseful is also engaged. On top of his good form on the flat and his excellent schooling efforts at Awapuni it is hard to see Whakaue beaten in the Park Hurdles. The three-year-old* will have it all their own way in the Maiden Plate, and the best form has been shown by Acmil, while Commandant is well-bred. Highwayman is back to form again, and in the Hunt Club Steeplechase he may be able to give away 51b. to Risk. One of the best races of the day should be the Abbotsford Handicap, and form points to Royal Damon, Bernera and Chopin filling the placets. Tall Timber should be suited by the Hunters’ Flat, with Postman his hardest to beat. The programme concludes with a puzzler, in which Henry ,of Navarre. Kahikatoa, Ganpat, Evening Hero and Merry Cry are all fast. However, the top-weight should be favourite. ,
