TIKORANGI SCHOOL CONCERT
FINE PROGRAMME ENJOYED. TALENT OF THE CHILDREN. A very enjoyable concert was given in the Tikorangi Hall last night by the pupils of the school, the many items being given without a hitch and with but little of that nervousness sometimes in evidence at concerts of a like nature. The children left no doubt in the minds of the hearers about the time an., trouble spent in preparation, and great credit is due to the headmaster, Mr. A. Palmer, and his helpers, Misses D. Wood and B. Miller, teachers at the school, for the manner in which their pupils submitted the programme. Items were carefully selected, and song and dance numbers were interspersed with comedy and dialogue which kept the crowded hall in good spirits. The programme wasr-r—Senior choruses, “Cherry Ripe” and “Santa Lucia”; junior dances, “I See You” and “Cat’s Polka”; dialogue, “Train to Mauro”; junior songs, “Hush” and “Santa Claus”; comedy chorus and then balloon drill by senior pupils; junior dances, clap dance and “Sweet Kate,”; sea shanties by senior boys; dialogue, “Mary Had a Little Lamb”; character songs, “Widdicombs Fair” (senior boys); folk dances, middle school, “Read the Flax” and “Flower Dance”; folk dances, senior pupils, “Mountain March,” “Cochin China,” “Threesome Reel”; song in-char-acter, “Japanese Butterfly,” the soloists being Jean Garner and Doug. Hills; folk dances, senior pupils, “Little Man in a Fix” and “Helston Furry”; dialogue, “A Cheap Coat”; plantation songs by senior pupils. Chairs and forms were cleared, supper dispensed and dancing continued until a late hour, the folk of Tikorangi leaving no stone unturned to make the evening a memorable one for children and adults alike.
