SIR POMARE'S ASHES

THE INTERMENT AT WAITARA.

Maoris from all over the Dominion are expected to attend the interment of the remains of Sir Alaui Pomare at Wai-' tara. The ashes will be buried in a vault iu the precincts of the Alanakorih'i meeting-house. Special arrangements are being made tv accommodate the Maoris at the ceremony. Four large marquees and several smaller ones are being sent by the Native Department from Wellington. Representatives from each party in Parliament will attend. Other members ot Parliament will be attending and it may bo necessary for the House to adjourn. Probably those members will catch the special train leaving Waikanae with the ashes next Wednesday. This train will also convey to Waitara the mourners and Maori friends from the south;

A notable Maori ceremony is expected with all the customs and traditions of the race. The wonderful Maori oratory will no doubt be heard again by the pakeha through’ the interpretation of Mr. Balneavis,' the private secretary of Si.” Apirana Ng.'vta,

The excavation of a vault at the meet-ing-house was begun on Tuesday morning. Later a memorial stone will be placed over the site in the view of travellers on the main road.
