Dr. Lou iso Stanley, chief of the bureau of home economies, Department of Agriijrlture, Washington, and Miss Burleigh, head of the child guidance clinic at Los Angeles, were speakers at the public session of the Pan-Pacific women’s conference to-day. During the evening Dr. Stanley described the organisation of the ‘great White House conference on child welfare summoned by President Hoover for November next. A committee of experts had been invited by the President to make plans for* the conference. They had formed many committees and sub-eommitte_es of specialists in every branch of the subject. Miss Burleigh’s subject was mental hygiene with special reference to the work done in child guidance. Misss Burleigh leaves Honolulu to-morrow. She lent assistance to-day at the social service and health sections in discussing the subject of child guidance. Progress reports from all sections were received to-day. This afternoon an inspection v/.is made of the Palama hospital extension, the social service settlement and the Salvation Army girls’ home, where an attractive tea room run on Australian lines effords the girls training as cooks and waitresses. A picturesque incident of the conference was the presentation to the director of the Pan-Pacific Institute by the chairman of the Australian delegation of a silken Australian flag, the director having expressed a desire on the occasion .of the last women’s conference for such a flag. Lady Hordern provided one, which Lady Game handed to the delegation for presentation.
