TIKORANGI INGLESIDE

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The popularity' of old-fashioned dances, to which spice is added by Scottish measures, proved a great attraction to the people of the Tikorangi district when a second ingleside was held under the auspices of the New Plymouth Caledonian Society last night. The Tikorangi hall was filled. Streamers and greenery lent the hall a carnival air. In the absence of the chief, Dr. D. E. Brown, the chieftain, Mr. A. Bankin, was played in by Piper Goble. In declaring the dance opened he extended a welcome to all. In due time, when the vigorous dances had begun to weary, the haggis was borne around the hall by Chieftain Bankin in all ceremony, while Pipers Goble and Black piped right merrily. The ode was delivered by Mr. R. Reid, The committee consisted of Mcsdames- 11. A. {ind C. Foreman, J. Paulger, 11. Hills, Dowman and Fanil, Messrs.. H. A. and C. Foreman, J. Paulger, T. Hine, H. Hills and R. Rolfe (secretary and treasurer). Assistance was given by Mesdames Davidson, Palmer, Davis, Hadfield, B. Jury, Misses Pruden, Paulger (2), Wood, Turchie, I. Foreman and Mr. J, Bobins, The decorations and posies of violets in the supper room and the floral and streamer effects in the hall were the work of Mesdames Lankshear, Paulger and their helpers. Dance music was provided by Martin’s orchestra. Pipers A. Kirkland, Black and Goble and Drummer Cummin played for the Highland measures. During supper music was played by Mrs. J. Paulger and Miss M. Hay. Variety was added to the programme by trombone solos by Mr. H. Kaye, an Irish Jig by wee Miss Ailsa Lafferty, a pupil of Beryl King (Piper Kirkland), and vocal solos from Misses Betty Turnbull and Russa n. Messrs. J. Corkill (secretary), and W. S. Jones were masters of ceremonies. At the conclusion Archdeacon Gavin thanked the ladies of -the church committee and their helpers who had made function a success. .. <;
