BOXING IN TARANAKI

THE DONOVAN-LECKIE BOUT. A meeting of the Taranaki Boxing Association was held last night when there were present Messrs J. Garcia (chairman), A. F. Aldie, R. Harvey, V. S. Pruden, U Horlor, B. Hume and P. E. Stainton. During the indisposition of the secretary (Mr. E. J. Carr), Mr. ,P. E. Stainton volunteered to act as secretary and his offer was accepted. Signed articles in connection with the Donovan-Leckie bout, which is to be held at New Plymouth on September 6, the night of the Taranaki-Hawke’s Bay Rugby match, were received. As the Opera House is not available for that night the arrangements made by the chairman to stage the bout in the Coronation Hall were approved. A. scheme was planned to provide seating accommodation for over 1800. Mr. Earl Stewart, Wellington, is to be asked to officiate as referee. Preliminaries between leading amateiirs will be arranged. . Already applications have been received from several amateurs keen to take part. The chairman was appointed the association’s delegate- to the conference of the New Zealand Boxing Council to be held at Palmerston North on August 2’2. The committee was entertained, at supper by Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Aldie. ■
