BRITISH MYSTERY THRILLER. “At the Villa Rose” introduces such places of interest as the' Casino ’at Monte Carlo, the night clubs and broadwalks to Stratford picture-goers, Central characters in the picture are' Madame d’Auvry, a wealthy woman who has two burning passions—for jewellery and spiritualism—which are respectively appeased by her huge income and the seances held by 'her' protege, Celia, a fraudulent medium restricting herself to satisfying Madam-e’s craving; Haiiaud, a famous French criminal investigator; - Wcathermjll, a man-about-town and the fiance of Celia, and Ricardo, a fop. During one of the seances Madame is murdered and Celia disappears mysteriously. Weathermill calls in Hanaud, the greatest of French criminologists. Discoveries . and deductions lead to the arrest of Celia, who has been held a prisoner by a band of crooks whose leader is unknown to the police. A complete reconstruction of the crime, in the actual room where it was committed,. is ordered by Hanaud Weathermill, who has held the sympathy of everybody concerned right through, reveals himself as the true perpetrator of the crime. The all-British cast interpret their respective parts with much charm and realism, and their enunciation is just as perfect as one would expect it to be.
