SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Mahoenui school committee was held ’last Wednesday'. Present were Messrs. J. Old (chairman), F. Armstrong, C. Croall, G. Sole and C. i Roberts (secretary and treasurer). It was decided to charge parents 2s 6d per child per trip for the conveyance of those children who attended the dental clinic at the Pio Pio school, and divide the money between the private car owners who gave their time so that the children could benefit from the free dental treatment. ' The headmaster reported having 40 names on the roll. That number was a record for Mahoenui. The Education Department rejected 'the committee’s request for a teacher’s residence as the headmaster, Mr. J. C. Moss, had qualified for a larger school rind might be transferred in the near future. The secretary was instructed to convey the thanks of the committee to Mr. M. J. Broadfoot, M.P., for his exertions in the matter. SPINSTERS’ AND BACHELORS’ BALL. The spinsters and bachelors on Thursday. held their. ball in the hall beautifully decorated .with bamboo and golden wattle, the work of a few of the social committee, Messrs. Rattenbury, Brown, Old and Noice. Music was supplied by Mr. P. Swift, Te Kuiti, and extras were played by Messrs. Mikaa, Rangi and Noice.

A first-class supper was supplied, A cake donated by Mrs. O’Donoghue was won by Mr. Askley Burke. Among those present were Madames Davidson (green crepe de chene), Jones <black satin and lace), Summers (black velvet), Ridling (green 'crepe de chene), and Wass (black silk lace), Misses Chapman (red velvet and lace); M. Moir (pink crepe de chene); B. Moir (blue taffetas); H. Hepburn (red velvet), M. Rattenbury (green taffetas), J. Rattenbury (pink atin), Wheeler (black satin), F. Furness (yellow crepe de chene with black fur), M. Hunt (cream satin), and N. Hillman (black satin with gold silk shawl with wide fringe). GENERAL AND PERSONAL. During the very cold weather this valley was visited by a heavy fall of snow, the deepest experienced for 12 years. Four Mahoenui Rugby players have been selected to play at New Plymouth on Saturday for the Tainui representatives. They are Reg Rattenbury, Roy Old, Stan Roberts and Tawhaki, with Don McWhirter as an emergency. Jock Armstrong was selected and played at Auckland for the King Country repre-: S(jptatives. Miss Clegge has been staying with her aunt Mrs. Avery. Mr. Tom Summers is visiting in Auckland. Misses Rattenbury with their brothers have been visiting in Auckland. Messrs. J. Avery, D. Gribbon, J. Gribbon, J. Purdie, S. Roberts, G. Tubman and J. Armstrong visited Auckland for the Rugby test. Miss J. McKenzie has been., north. Mr. Keith Funnel! has gone north. Mr. L, Summers is on holiday.
