Kelly, who was killed by a train at Tahora last week, took place at Whangamomona on Sunday and was the largest for many years. The cortege from the Church of England was preceded by about 40 members of the Masonic Lodge and four members of the order acted as pall bearers. The Rev. H. Hamilton conducted the service at the graveside in a most impressive manner, and the beautiful Masonic service was read by Mr. D. H. Proffit. There were many wreaths, which bore testimony to .the high esteem in which Mr. Kelly was held. Miss Nola Geever left. last week to join the nursing staff of the lona hospital, New Plymouth. Miss M. Gordon-Glassford is the guest of Mrs. Telfar. Mr. and Mrs. Worthington left on Monday for the south on annual holiday. - -■ •. ‘ ” Mrs. A. Coxhead is on a, short visitto the South Island. The rainfall for July was 4.6 G inches, the lightest for seven years. . Rain fell on twelve days, the heaviest fall occurring bn the 18th., when the gauge recorded 1.78’ inches. Light snow fell on the 28th. and on the 30th. the indoor temperature fell to 33 degrees F. Football practice in the main street on 'Saturday came to an abrupt .ending with the crash of glass as the ball careered through the office window of the hotel. The proprietor (Mr. T. A. Main) is an old player and took a sporting view of the. incident. WIAKAHU PERSONALS. Mr. J. Henderson, who has been visiting Marton, has returned home. Mrs. S. Hodgson, Te Wera, is the guest of her mother, Mrs. C. Ford. Among those who have gone to Wei-' lington to see the test match are Messrs. J. Hopkirk, P. Ford,. F. Ford and the Misses E. and A. Coyne. . Mrs. J. Hopkirk is staying with her sister, Mrs. <C. O’Neil, Ngaere. . . ; ' Miss N. Kopke has rbturned home.
