TATARAIMAKA INGLESIDE

SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL EVENING. The skirling of the pipes proved a great attraction to the people of the Tataraimaka district last night when the New Plymouth Caledonian Society conducted its annual inglcside there. The hall was filled to overflowing. Augmented by three bus-loads from New Plymouth, the crowd was on pleasurebent, and it was satisfied. Graceful oldtime dances, spirited Highland measures and the gliding steps of modern dances were combined in a judiciously arranged programme. Chief Dr. D. E. Brown and Mrs. Brown were unable to attend until later in the evening. Chieftain A. Rankin was played in by Pipers McKinnon and Goble and he briefly welcomed all those attending the gathering. Just prior to supper the haggis was played around the hall in customary ceremony, and Burns’ ode was delivered by Mr. Reed. Supper was supplied by the ladies of the hall committee, among the number assisting being Mesdames Young, Jones, Harvey, Knight, Hoby, McCarthy and Hawke. The Highland music for the reels, Cireassion circles and such Scottish dances was played by Pipers McKinnon and Goble, while a splendid programme of old-time and modern dance music was well-interpreted by Martin’s orchestra. Mrs. Montgomery delighted with a vocal solo, being accompanied by Mrs. Martin, and an extra dance at supper interval was played by Mrs. P. Hoby. Messrs J. Corkill (secretary) and W. S. Jones were masters of ceremonies.
